Battle The Beach 2025 from the perspective of racer Petr Špaček

We love the races we've done so far. There is a good level of athletes, a unique environment that combines a beach arena and a "concrete plaza" under the lighthouse, where the only traditional CrossFit workout you know from the gym is usually held.

Although we told ourselves how important it was to enter the competition with a good result, we didn't do too well.
A combination of a poorly set up judge and a few incorrect no reps added dozens of seconds to our time, and 450 double unders took us noticeably longer than the other teams.
It's hard to tell if it was inaccurate counting or if the others were just jumping faster, but we were slow here.
After the workout I consulted our situation with the headjudge and they eventually got us right and adjusted the result - but it still resulted in 7th place.

The next morning we wanted to fix our appetite. However, it didn't quite work out - even worse than on Friday.
One hundred dumbbell bench presses literally "fixed" us. We had to split the reps too much and it was not enough for a good result. But we were properly pumped for the post-workout picture!

Bike - Tom and I love the bike. But here we knew we weren't likely to get wheat. We prefer a 90+ minute ride, not just a sprint with no technical passages. 10th place and feet on fire.
By then we knew it was a wash... that the box wasn't going to happen.

But the last WOD of the day on Saturday went well for us. Friday night it rained and a fair 30cm of water flooded the place where we ran. Isn't that a complication? On the contrary, I liked it a lot. Some people ran barefoot, other teams ran in shoes. The combination of weightlifting and running suited us - that made 2nd place. The first bright moment!

Sunday started with a workout adjustment. Swimming was cancelled due to big waves, instead pulling a sled in the sand. A workout I was looking forward to - I knew teamwork would play a key role here. It suited us well and we finished 3rd, even winning the last set of the sledge.

We went into the last workout coming from 5th place, but with no real chance of a box. Nice WOD, challenging for mobility and overhead position which was crucial. It was tough, but we split it well and took 4th place.

So we end with a feeling of... "Hey, if we trained hard again, maybe we could still do it."
See you next year! #czechguns
