BATTLE OF P.O.D. - fitness competition

Last weekend, namely 7.6.2025 took place the 3rd edition of Battle of P.O.D. - fitness competition, which we regularly organize at Power of Development CrossFit.

This year, it was held as a pairs race, where we filled three categories:

  • woman + woman
  • man + man
  • MIX.

The race was for teams from the intermediate category, where one of the pair could be from the elite category.

Because of the great interest and also the fairness of the competitions, this year we have also launched the so-called "level check". This was a grading workout that helped us divide the teams into appropriate categories. However, it was not about qualification, it was about knowing how a given team moves, communicates and works. And most importantly, that none of the teams were at a significant disadvantage. We then used the results from the level check to create HEATs and the winner of each category received a 50% discount on the entry fee.

This year we decided to take it a step further, and for the convenience of the teams, the entire competition was run through the Circle21 app.

Which meant:

  • live leaderboard
  • heat management
  • online results

The judging was also done using this app, so our judging team didn't need any paper scorecards, but could conveniently "click" everything right in the app.

We started the race day at a nearby oval, where we prepared a fitness workout for the competitors with a light touch of HYROX race. It was the first time we used a space outside of our gym and I don't think it will be the last. Despite the initial surprise and slight dismay of the athletes, everyone made it through the workout, despite the inclement weather forecast, in an almost dry T-shirt.

After morning conditioning, we moved back to the gym where the competitors were treated to a second, significantly shorter, workout called Mission Max Possible. As the name suggests, this was a strength workout where the competitors not only looked for the maximum weight for the complex, but then also worked with percentages of that weight.

A total of 4 workouts were completed by all teams, which were set up so that everyone could do them, but also tested everyone. The strength workout was followed by a slightly longer but definitely no less fun workout called Hastala vista, baby. This wokrout, dare we say, made the competitors a bit uncomfortable. But they did it well and at the end they had a fast sprint called May the rope be with you. Heavier dumbbell, heavier single-arm, some of that slide. The competitors enjoyed all of this in the workouts.

All day long, refreshments were prepared for competitors, visitors and the organizing team in the form of coffee, lemonades and sweet snacks at the bar. At the same time, we know how important proper fuel is during races, so we are very happy that Kucing bistro accepted our invitation. Where all visitors could purchase authentic Malaysian food made with fresh ingredients. For this event, they customized a menu specifically for the fitness community, offering meals that were balanced, rich in protein, full of flavor, and yet free of unnecessary fats and added sugars.

For the winners of all three categories there were special medals with cups and valuable prizes from our partners, whom we would like to thank once again.

A big thank you to Workout.eu, Mixit, On Lemon, Flow, Vilgain, AVKN and Ronnie. Without their support, the races would not be nearly where they were.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Who the race day could not have gone without and to whom huge thanks are due is the whole team of judges and organisers. Planning, preparation, timing, communication, fair decision making and accountability. They handled it all to perfection and we couldn't be happier to have assembled such a team. Next we must mention the voice of our races, the one that wouldn't even need a microphone, our speaker, Lenka Solnickova. For the perfect and fast photos we thank Michal Štěpánek, who has been dragging us to the races for some time now.

Whether you've raced or cheered before, we hope to see you again. Maybe soon. And maybe... even bigger.
