Legendary Workout MURPH

Murph challangeThe day when everywhere on the planet will try to complete legendary Murph is almost here.
Murph Memorial day is on 25th of May.

It is one of these workout, what you probably heard about even if you are not a CrossFit lovers.
Murph pays tribute to fallen American soldier – Michael Murphy, who lost his life on 28.6.2005 in Anfghanistan. This workout was his favourite and since that moment, people all around the world do this workout as tribute to fallen hero.

In 2007, Michael’s parents, Dan & Maureen, and his brother Michael created the LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

CrossFit community marked this workout as the second hardest from all workout even though it does not look like so hard on paper.

What is it?

WORKOUT MURPH

1 mile Run
100 Pull-Ups
200 Push-Ups
300 Air Squats
1 mile Run
*With a 20 lb Vest / 14 lb women or Body Armor

You can separate each exercise. The most common is version, when you are doing 5 pull ups, 10 push ups and 15 squats for 20 rounds. If you think that you are not able to do 15 push ups together, then you can separate them between squats and pull ups.

We could see Murph on CrossFit Games in years 2015 and 2016. Dave Castro decided to put Murph on list of workouts because of tenth anniversary of Murph.
2016 should be a test, how fast can athletes adapt on this workout and they were quite successful.

The winners in women category in 2015 was Sam Briggs with time 39:10, between mens Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson with time 38:36.
It is important to say, that athletes have to do every exercise gradually.

We witnessed much better times in 2016, when Kari Pearce took first place with time 36:42 in women category and former NAVY soldier Josh Bridges with time 34:38 in men category.

It is really specific WORKOUT. It is neccessary to have right tactic and be prepared for everything-

Competitions in Czech republic are usually with 10 kg vests.

You can use 15 kg vest if you are really brave, but I promise you that you will hate yourself for that.

If you love CrossFit or not, this workout will test you as much as nothing and you can be really proud of yourself if you will finish it.
