Review of TYR CX-T1 Shoes

As you may have noticed, we have recently added shoes from the brand TYR (at the time of writing, we also have TYR clothing) to our offer. The brand primarily specialized in swimming products, but last year they also entered the CrossFit scene and their shoes dominated the CrossFit Games 2022.

They gifted their first model to a large number of athletes and therefore, we could see them quite often. Many of you have been asking us about the shoe, how it is to train in it, what the size is like, and how durable it is. When we ordered this test pair, we followed several sites that recommended going half a size up compared to Metcons, which in my case meant going from size 8 US to size 8.5 US. It wasn't completely a mistake. However, the shoe is a bit larger and I think that the size 8 US, which I also wear in Nike, would fit even better.

Comparison with Nike Metcon and Reebok Nano

From the first try on, the shoe was very comfortable, but at the same time, it provided adequate support for the foot and held it well. In my opinion, it provides similar foot support as the Nike Metcon 7, but it is a type of shoe that has a wider front part. Therefore, it could also suit people who have a wider foot and have a problem with Metcons. Another exclusive feature of the shoe is the drop, which is 9 mm, which is even more than Reebok Nano X2 (7 mm) and Nike Metcon (4 mm).
Thanks to the higher sole and solid side support, it's also great for weightlifting.

Another good feature, in my opinion, is that the shoe is relatively light and any jumps or running can be performed well in it. Therefore, it can be used for anything in your training. On the back of the shoe, we can find material that is made for standing clicks, so you do not have to worry about the shoe starting to wear off after a few repetitions.

Strong Performance with Minor Shortcomings

However, the shoe has one disadvantage, which I believe the TYR brand will improve for the next model, and that is the side part for the rope. After about 30 repetitions, the material on the sides started to wear off, and unfortunately, it does not look like it was just one defective pair. Therefore, it is necessary to be a bit more careful with this shoe on the rope. Otherwise, the shoe has a good grip on the rope and holds well.

Personally, I find it more comfortable to train in this shoe than in the Nike Metcon 7 model, which I really liked. The shoe is like new after 3 months, except for the already mentioned side part, and I believe it will last for some time.
